I’ve spent 35 years on this planet and I’m finally ready to give everyone the answer as to which cone is the best for ice cream. It is the wafer cone and the wafer cone alone. If you say the waffle or sugar cone, so help me, I will murder you. They don’t inherit the property of the ice cream inside of it. You can’t stand either of them flat on a table when you need an extra hand. They can’t reliably hold ice cream the way the wafer cone can without dripping. I mean put some soft serve in a waffle or sugar cone and tell me your hands aren’t sticky in a matter of minutes. They’re also cheaper of the two solutions. Seriously, get on wafer train because any other answer and you’re just flat out wrong.

You would think taking a work-from-home day would actually be a little less taxing, but that’s just never the case. Oh well.

Best part of my night was hearing a quote that I probably should have ran into in the past, but was new for me.

I’m having a very difficult time moving even the slightest bit past paralysis without seeing that whole stair case right now.

This image of mine tends to get used a lot, but today it’s being used as a visual aid in a story about an “awful head-on collision” on the Golden Gate Bridge. Well alright.

Finally, someone in the media is saying it.

There are a lot of people in my life who watch and enjoy The Big Bang Theory. A lot of those people sit there and say they have no idea why I don’t take the time to watch it because it’s about me and the things I like. I’ve seen a couple of episodes and not a single thing about it pulls me in. In fact, the times I’ve watched, I’ve been genuinely insulted by it and always compelled to get away from it as quickly as I could have. Why I experience this reaction while other get so much joy from it has made me want to write something about it for quite some time, but it looks like I wont have to.

I found this article written by a fellow nerd. I love seeing someone else document exactly what I’m thinking and his analysis is so spot on. Here’s couple of quick excerpts:

“…lazy humour is one thing but cruel humour is quite another. If you watch, really watch an episode of The Big Bang Theory and pay attention to when the audience laughs it soon becomes clear that what they’re laughing at. What Chuck Lorre wants us to find funny is not the jokes which the characters are making, it’s the characters themselves… The reason I feel uncomfortable watching The Big Bang Theory is because it’s laughing at me, at people like me.”

“The humour in The Big Bang Theory relies on the audience siding with and relating to Penny, the character coded as ‘normal’ in comparison to the main four guys.”

“And this isn’t even touching on the way TBBT portrays women. Most notably the fact that until recently the only female character on the show had no understanding of science or nerd culture, and the episode in which it’s treated as a miracle that a woman is in a comic book store – ‘she must be lost’ they say.”

It was an interesting read that I related to a lot, so there’s why I hate The Big Bang Theory.

Over a decade ago, I started up this little site of mine (then called the-journals.com) and powered it using Radio Userland. Life in its first generation was grand, but that solution eventually went the way of the dodo and I was on to greener pastures with choosing Drupal as the system to power the second generation my site. It kinda worked, but it required a lot of tinkering to get it to do what I wanted it to do and I simply never had the time I would have liked to put into it. That also led directly to not posting as much content as I wanted and with the popularity of web-based social networks exploding in the last several years and the ease these tools allowed their users to publish and share content, I quickly felt left behind and was faced with a new decision. Do I abandon my site altogether and jump on the facey spaceies out there like everyone else or do I keep the site and find new tools that function better for what I want?

Well I knew I wanted the full ownership and control of what content I would produce and how it would be shared, but the current social networks didn’t give me that ownership and control. I also knew I definitely didn’t want to ignore all of the social networks out there just because everyone is on them and it’s a great place to share content. I eventually came to a decision that included both. I would still continue my site with new tools that would allow me to create, organize, and control content easily. At the same time, I would build the functionality into my site to be able to push that content to outside social networks so it would be more accessible and easier to share. My goal was defined.

Project: Rich enters its third generation by continuing to be the hub of all things me and things like my Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Vimeo, YouTube, and 500px pages would be portals into that hub. That’s what I want and that’s what I’m going to work on over the next couple of months here. It’s starting today with moving onto WordPress to power my system and I’m sure there’s going to be fluctuation in how the site functions for a while, especially with all of the post before this one, so bear me. Just a test folks. Never mind this at all.

So my 3rd-generation iPad came in the mail this morning. Coming from the iPad 2, I have to say, I’m not very impressed. I mean what’s the killer feature that makes me really excited about this thing? The retina display? It’s hardly noticeable. Definitely, not as noticeable as the iPhone 3Gs to the iPhone 4. That’s for sure. The iSight camera? Big deal. Who is really using that camera on content that requires more megapixels? It’s that what your phone’s camera or a compact camera is for? So then the 4G LTE speeds are where it’s at, right? Not for me. Don’t care and don’t want it. Mine is just the wifi version and I’m very happy with that. How about dictation then? Well if this isn’t just a huge slap in the face reminder as to the device not having Siri, I don’t know what is.

Yeah, not very impressed.
